Become a mentor

Help unlock a young person’s potential

Our youth mentoring scheme enables media professionals to share their skills with disadvantaged 13-25 year olds. We work with organisations across England running media projects for young people.

How much time will it take?

The scheme is flexible and takes into account your busy lifestyle: whether you give a few hours for a one-off workshop or regular support for a longer term project, your experience and contribution will make a big impact on young people.

Our scheme is shaped by requests from youth organisations – you could be offered the opportunity to work with an individual or a group for a short or long term project, and there’s no need to commit until you find something that’s right for you.

What’s in it for you?

It’s an opportunity to:

  • Use your expertise to help unlock a young person’s potential
  • Develop your skills including communication and leadership
  • Gain a sense of personal achievement and reward
  • Understand more about issues young people face
  • Develop links with your local community

Is it for you?

We’re looking for media professionals who have. . .

  • Practical media skills from camera operation and editing to journalism and scriptwriting
  • The ability to offer inspiration and encouragement
  • At least a few hours of free time
  • A keenness to help young people

Here are the sorts of skills we’re after:

DV camera operation, directing, producing, video editing, journalism, presenting, photography, radio production, publication design / layout, scriptwriting, campaigning, web producing…to name a few!

If you’re not sure if you have what we are looking for, get in touch with the team:
