What can Youth Mentoring offer me?
However you started out in the media industry, whether making cups of tea or answering the phone, you probably didn't get where you are on your own. There was probably one person who gave you the confidence to get over the first few hurdles.
Becoming a mentor gives you the opportunity to be that person for someone else along with the chance to give back to the community and develop both personally and professionally.
What will it involve?
We see a mentor as a role model who can offer a disadvantaged young person a bit of perspective, insight and guidance on their project.
We will work with you to find a mentoring project that fits your skills and interests as well as your schedule.
Our dedicated team will prepare you for your role through training and ongoing support during your mentoring relationship. As you will be working with young people you'll need to have a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check which we will manage on your behalf.
How much time will it take?
Youth Mentoring is totally flexible and the amount of time you give is up to you.
The scheme has been designed to work for you and offers the following pick-'n'-mix of options:
- one-to-one mentoring (where you mentor an individual)
- group mentoring (where you mentor a group of young people)
- team mentoring (where you form a team that mentors a group of young people)
Choose to do a one-off session of just an hour, or get involved in an ongoing project over a period of time. Just tell us what you have in mind and we'll try to find a match that's right for you.
