24-hour Party Conference People provides an alternative look into the inner workings of the party political conferences, through the eyes of someone who, like many people across the UK, faces the harsh realities of unemployment.
The documentary follows Neil White, 22 from Bury in Manchester, as he is given unprecedented access to the political stage and a chance to put his questions to the party leaders. During his journey Neil addresses some of the big issues facing people in the UK, from funding cuts and the summer riots to social mobility and unemployment.
Bringing humour to a traditionally sombre occasion, Neil also surprises politicians with ‘Desert Island Discs’ style questions, which results in Ed Milliband’s admission that his song of choice would be ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ by American rock band Journey and Eric Pickles stating his favourite as Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’.
The film is the result of a unique partnership between Media Trust, Sky News and The Times.
