Founded in 2004, Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Millions of people use Facebook every day to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what's going on in the world and to share and express what matters to them. As one of our corporate members, Facebook was looking for a way to engage their staff and help charities who needed support with their causes.
What we did:
We created the Charity Challenge, where eight Facebook teams were matched to eight central London charities with the goal of finding solutions to communications and fundraising challenges. The teams were armed with briefs from the charities helping them understand each unique challenge and we prepared team leaders ahead of the event through a pre-session, supporting them to manage interactive and inspirational sessions. We also worked with the charities to help them to refine their briefs and developed the agenda for the creative session.
57 Facebook staff members were involved and topics covered ranged from developing a communications plan for a sustainable energy charity to helping a leading LGBT charity create social change.
The charities were very pleased with the results:
- 100% felt the project met their expectations
- 96% felt better equipped to publicise their organisations
- 100% felt more motivated in their roles

Facebook's staff feedback showed the project was an overall succes with:
- 100% felt the experience was rewarding
- 90% said that the project helped them to improve their skills
- 90% said that the project had a positive impact on their motivation at work
A number of Facebook's employees are very keen to see how the charities put their advice into action, as some of them have met again to further develop and support with their communication needs.
