Medal winner backs swimming event

Friday 30th March 2012

Paralympic medal winner Fran Williamson is calling on swimmers to take part in a charity event.

Fran will be hosting the In The Swim 2012 event at Kensington Leisure Centre in west London in aid of disability charity, United Response.

The six times medal-winner, who recently retired from the sport after achieving silver and bronze at the Paralympics in Athens and Beijing, will be the official starter for the event.

Sunderland-born Fran will also be giving an inspirational speech about her own swimming experiences, and presenting medals to all those who take part in the 2,012 metre relay event on May 21.

Fran said: "The event really allows people from all walks of life to do something proactive that will truly make all the difference.

"Getting active is a great way of feeling a sense of achievement. I would encourage as many people as possible to take part and do something noteworthy that makes them feel proud."

The charity, which works with people with learning disabilities, mental health needs or physical disabilities, is still looking for swimmers to take part in the event.

For more information visit http://www.unitedresponse.org.uk/InTheSwim or call Mark Schueler on 020 8246 5202.

Spectator's tickets are available for £5, with all proceeds going to United Response.
