Sign up for annual hospice fun run

Tuesday 27th March 2012

Families can now sign up for an annual fun run to raise funds to support children with life-threatening illnesses.

Registration has opened for the eighth Donna Louise Children's Hospice 10k and 5k Family Fun Run.

The May 6 events supports the work of the Donna Louise Children's Hospice Trust, which provides respite for children with life-threatening conditions at its Treetops hospice on the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent.

The run will start at Trentham Gardens and take runners around the Trentham Estate, past the lake, through woodlands and the Italian Gardens.

Katy Burgess-Lowe, event organiser for the charity, said: "This event has gained a reputation across the region as an officially recognised race with certification from UK Athletics.

"It is also one of charity's biggest fundraising events. We aim to raise about £30,000 to help continue the vital care and support the charity provides to life-threatened children and their families."

Runners are advised to register ahead of the event, but they can sign up on the day from 8.30am. All participants who want an official race time must be signed up by 9.30am.

The entry fee for the 10k is £14 for adults, the 5k is £12 for adults and £7 for children under 16. Family tickets are avaialble. Entrance to the Italian Gardens is free until 10am.
