Two men determined to raise money for a Haiti charity are to take part in the first ever Milton Keynes marathon.
Matt Boswell and Rob Hartgroves, from Wellingborough, decided to enter the marathon after their application to the London event was unsuccessful.
The duo have raised £1,350 for the Andrew Grene Foundation (AGF) over the past year, and they hope to raise even more by the end of the marathon.
The AGF supports the people of Haiti through education, loans and building projects. It recently built a new school in Port-au-Prince, where an estimated 80% previously in operation had been destroyed in the earthquake of 2010.
Matt said: "We wanted to complete a full marathon in 2012 in support of the Andrew Grene Foundation, and when we didn't get in to the London Marathon through the ballot, we decided to have a go at the Milton Keynes marathon, as it is new, and it is local to both of us.
"We are looking forward to getting it over and done with now. Training has gone well, and we are just hoping that we have done enough."
The pair, who last year raised more than £350 for the charity by completing the Silverstone half marathon, will be cheered on by family, friends and colleagues on the day.
Jane Holden, head of fundraising for AGF, said: "We are grateful for both Matt and Rob's continued support of our charity. One hundred per cent of all donations received by the AGF go directly to helping with our projects on the ground in Haiti."
The marathon takes place on Sunday April 29. To sponsor Matt and Rob, visit http://www.justgiving.com/mattandrobmarathonmadness.
