Hospice boosts fitness resolutions

Tuesday 24th January 2012

New year resolutions to keep fit are getting a boost thanks to a hospice's sporting events calendar.

Douglas Macmillan Hospice, in Stoke-on-Trent, is hosting a number of events between April and June to raise funds for specialist palliative care for adults with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Events include a 5k run or walk on April 1, a bike ride on May 20, the Potters 'Arf marathon on June 10, a midnight to sunrise walk on June 22 along with a fancy drag race on May 27.

The 5k run or walk and the midnight to sunrise walk are more suited to families and groups, says the hospice, which is based in Burton, while the Potters 'Arf marathon is tailored towards the more experienced runner.

The charity is also hoping people will organise their own fundraising challenges.

Last year a group of supporters raised £2,000 in donations through teaching a Zumba fitness class at Northwood Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent.
