Celeb baker launches jubilee cake

Wednesday 6th June 2012

Celebrity baker Paul Hollywood has helped launch a patriotic pudding to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The judge on BBC TV show The Great British Bake-off has helped launch the Vintage Summer Cake across the Vintage Inns country pub chain.

The triple-decker sponge, containing raspberries, blackcurrants, summer fruit syrup, cream and blueberry fruit, has been created by chefs from the hotel chain to celebrate the Queen's 60-year reign.

It will also support the work of Marie Curie Cancer Care with 15p from the sale of each £3.95 slice going to the charity.

Paul said: "As a nation of food lovers, we always rise to the challenge of producing something delicious for a momentous occasion.

"The Victoria Sponge was created in honour of Queen Victoria's reign so it's only right we commemorate Elizabeth II with something special and traditionally British."

The sponge cake will remain on the menu at Village Inns until the end of August.
