Filmmakers look at organ donation

Wednesday 25th April 2012

Filmmakers are being asked to raise the profile of organ donation through a short-film competition.

NHS Blood And Transplant (NHSBT) wants the films to encourage people to sign up to the Organ Donation Register (ODR). The winning film will also look at why people need to tell their family and friends of their choice.

The competition, Organ Donation Through A Lens, will mark the launch of National Transplant Week which runs from July 9 to 15.

Film 2012 presenter Claudia Winkleman, a supporter of NHSBT's film competition, said: "Film can be a particularly emotive medium, and this competition is a great opportunity for amateur filmmakers to make a difference to people's lives through film and inspire people to sign up to the ODR, and also to have that important conversation about it. I'm signed up to the ODR, you never know when you or a loved one may need an organ."

Films must be submitted by May 18 and the winning films will be announced at the start of National Transplant Week in July. The winner will receive £1,000 worth of camera equipment.

To join the ODR call 0300 1232323 or visit http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk. To enter the competition, email NTWfilmcompetition2012@redconsultancy.com or call 0207 025 6611 for a briefing pack.
