Portrait of breast cancer struggle

Thursday 8th September 2011

Freelance photographer Astrid Schulz is exhibiting a series of 15 images, showing the different stages of breast cancer treatment.

The exhibition and related events run from October 17-22 from 12pm-6pm at The Underground Gallery, The Strand, Charing Cross Underground Station Exit 9, London.

The exhibition includes informative and informal events for people and their loved ones affected by breast cancer.

A private viewing will be held on Tuesday October 18 from 6-8.30pm.

On October 19, a Confidence and Style event runs from 6-8.30pm. Attendees can learn how to deal with changes to appearance and boost self-confidence during cancer treatment.

Our Journey is being held on October 20, 2-4.30pm. With this session, Kate and Jessica share their journey of breast cancer and give their thoughts as to how to keep emotionally strong.

A photo session is being held for sufferers of breast cancer on October 22, 12-6pm. Those attending can have their picture taken by Astrid Schulz.

All events are free and open to all. Drinks and snacks are provided.

The project, Kate's Journal, started in January 2010 when Kate Sims was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite her devastation she asked photographer Astrid Schulz to take some pictures of her, depicting the way she looked before the operation.

The exhibition and its incorporated events aim to give other cancer patients and their next of kin an insight into the treatment.
