Runners get free charity race entry

Tuesday 10th April 2012

Runners can take part in an activity-filled event for free thanks to a charity.

Sight Support Derbyshire is offering free places in the Mad Monk obstacle race in return for sponsorship to help it continue its work.

The charity, is working with event organiser Darley Abbey-based XRunner, to offer the deal for the 10k Mad Monk race, in Derbyshire.

It includes a trail run, swim, mud bank, and assault course and, in total, there are 24 obstacles. It has previously been tackled by model and TV personality Katie Price, also known as Jordan.

Robin Toal, fundraising manager for Sight Support Derbyshire, said: "I took part in the Mad Monk event last year with a load of my friends and it was great fun, a massive challenge, but really good fun.

"XRunner events are like no other 10k that I have taken part in, there are no long dull sections and there are constant challenges on the way from the infamous river crossing to the mud bank, tunnels and my personal favourite the monster hay bales.

"Anyone looking for a bit of a challenge should take a look and with Sight Support Derbyshire happy to cover your entry fee there is no better time to get involved than now."

Participants are encouraged to raise £80 in sponsorship to take part in the event at Darley Abbey on May 13.

Races are made up of five kilometre laps so runners have the choice of completing either 5k or 10k.
