Brave customers visit Sweeney Todd

Wednesday 18th April 2012

Barber Dejan Pollard made an unusual costume choice to help raise money for a palliative care hospice.

He dressed up as Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street, offering free hot towel shaves in exchange for a donation to St Barnabas House.

Dejan, in the murderous role made popular by Johnny Depp in the film Sweeney Todd, also handed out pork pies for brave customers to try. In the tale, customers are killed and turned into meat for pies.

Dejan raised £175 for the hospice, which is based in Worthing, West Sussex.

He said: "It was a really fun day dressing as Sweeney Todd. Being a new business in the area, we were looking to do something exciting and fun to raise the profile of the barbers, but also help a brilliant charity, St Barnabas House, in the process.'

Neil Francis, community fundraiser for the hospice, said: "We really appreciate the support of businesses such as Pollards Barbers. St Barnabas House relies on the generosity of people like Dejan and his customers; without them we could not continue to support local people and their families."
