Youth Mentoring

Have an impact on young people's lives using your media skills and creativity.

Have an impact on young people's lives using your media skills and creativity.

Our Youth Mentoring scheme enables media professionals to share practical skills with disadvantaged 13-25 year olds working on media projects.

It's an opportunity to use your expertise to help unlock young people's potential and at the same time develop your skills, including communication and leadership. You'll gain a sense of personal achievement and reward and understand more about the issues young people face.

We need people who have practical media skills, the ability to offer inspiration and encouragement, at least a few hours of free time, and an interest in working with young people.

Jack Petchey Foundation logoThe London and Essex element of this service is run in partnership with The Jack Petchey Foundation. The Foundation exists to raise the aspirations of young people, to help them take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.

We're looking for media professionals with skills in DV camera operation, directing, producing, editing, journalism, photography and radio production. This list isn't exclusive so if you're keen to find out more please email us or phone 020 7871 5617

How much time will it take?
How involved you get is up to you. Our scheme is shaped by requests from youth organisations and you could be offered the opportunity to work with an individual or a group, for a short or long term project. There's no need to commit until you find something that's right for you. Whatever time you can contribute, your expertise and experience will have a real impact.

How will it work?

  • Apply to the scheme using the link above
  • Once we've reviewed your application we'll get in touch and invite those accepted to a training session to learn a bit more about the role of a mentor and how to prepare for projects
  • Those attending the training session will be Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked
  • We'll keep you updated with upcoming media projects that match your skills
  • Once you hear about a project that interests you and fits with your schedule, we'll match you to the youth organisation so you can get started
  • We'll support you throughout your involvement in the scheme
  • All we ask of you is to keep us updated on how it's going and provide us with some basic information for our evaluation

Next training dates: Tuesday September 4th

Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm
