Community Media Champions

Community Reporting

Among the delegates and speakers at this year's Autumn Conference (Communications for a Big Society) were a group of Community Media Champions drawn from the many disadvantaged and isolated communities across England supported by the Community Voices initiative.

You can find out more about how those groups made a meaningful difference to their lives with the help of digital media in our Funded Communities area, while right here we have some of the audio and video the Community Media Champions created at the conference. Among them were:

  • Caroline Dodd and Matthew Haynes from Club Soda in Croydon - a group of people with learning difficulties making films and promoting local, accessible events to encourage participation and integration, and to combat isolation.
  • Richard Lace from Preston FM - a community radio station by and for the people of Preston.
  • Alison Smith from Pesky People who work with deaf and disabled people to create digital media and arts projects.
  • Evi Kontova from Sister Circle - a group of women in Whitechapel from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds creating a local film and photo exhibition to promote integration in their community.
  • John Ladle from Acting Up, a group working with communities with communications difficulties to empower them have a voice through digital media.
