Inspiring Voices

With the Inspiring Voices awards, Community Voices celebrates the varied and inspiring ways disadvantaged communities have empowered themselves with the help of digital media

Community Voices: Vintage Radio

Through utilising digital media for a wide variety of projects, the winners of our £500 Inspiring Voices awards gave a voice to their disadvantaged communities, but also provided inspiration to other community groups. You can find out more about some of the winners in this area.

Success stories have included Kilburn Older Voices Exchange, a group of older people using digital media to improve their lives in Camden; a youth-driven film project made in collaboration with the Manchester not-for-profit community theatre company, MaD Theatre Company; and Vintage Radio, a community radio station in Birkenhead set up and run entirely by older people for older people.

Launching the scheme earlier this year, Media Trust's Development Director, Gavin Sheppard, said 'We know that there is a wealth of great digital media work already going on in the community, and these awards will help to highlight that excellence, and inspire new communities to find their voice and make it heard'.
