From our blog: Devon and Cornwall
I’m currently planning an outreach visit to North Cornwall, West Devon, and North Devon for next week. If you’re in one of those areas and would like to talk about Community Voices, or if you have ideas for a media project you’d like to talk about, or even if you want to talk to us about what you’re already doing, then please get in touch.
We really want to make sure that we’re getting to all of the places that could benefit from Community Voices the most – and often those people are the hardest to find! So any help or suggestions you can give would be most appreciated.
You can email us at communityvoices@mediatrust.org
Thanks!
From our blog: Vintage Radio
I had an excellent time yesterday visiting Vintage Radio in Birkenhead.
Vintage Radio is run by older people, for older people. They’re currently doing their second three-week broadcast and are presenting a whole range of shows from specialist music shows, to shows done by guest presenters like the CAB, lifelong learning, and the Indian over 50s club.
The atmosphere at the station is fantastic. Everyone is so keen and they all seem to be having such a good time. I interviewed one lady, Marj, about how being involved with Vintage Radio has helped her get over the death of her husband
Listen to the interview with Marj here
Nearly everyone at the station had a story similar to Marj’s about how volunteering there had changed their life. It is such an amazing example of digital engagement.
Their plans for the future include doing outside broadcasts from nursing homes in the area, and broadcasting throughout the year online.

We like this: BBC News reports on an 80 year old lady’s first time on a computer.
From our blog: Super Homeless
This Blog is a must read, Super Homeless: The Adventures of a Homeless Girl
Its written by a teenage girl who is homeless in England. She remains anonymous throughout and writes the whole thing on an old laptop that she was given before she became homeless.
There are some amazing, and very touching posts. I think this one just sums up the tone of the blog: What Being Homeless Has Taught Me. I love the quiet hope and optimism, yet recognition and honesty about the fact that her life is incredibly tough right now.
She also points to more blogs by homeless people here.
From our blog: A Snapshot of My Life
This weekend’s Guardian featured a great story of empowerment through digital media. Children from the deprived London housing estate, the Kingsmead Estate, have been given digital cameras as part of a project at their school. They were asked to take photos of their daily lives and the results give a unique glimpse into family life on this London Estate.
If the Kingsmead Estate is in the news, its usually with reference to crime or urban deprivation. But these children have managed to express their voices in a non-negative context and its been so successful that their photos are now being exhibited at the V&A Museum of Childhood.
Watch the video that was produced from the children’s photos here.
