Head of Content and Digital Projects
I am heading up the rollout of the Community Voices project and objectives, as well as ensuring that as many communities in need as possible, in addition to the selected 26 demonstrator projects, experience the benefits of our activities and that we create a lasting impact.
Most recently I have been working directly with small grassroots communities and voluntary organisations in England and Africa to help them build sustainable funding models and improve their communications, however my core background is in marketing & communications and I have managed digital media strategies for global organisations across the UK, Europe and the US as well as India, Korea, China and Japan, all of which have unique digital landscapes .
I began my career in mobile communications during the exciting emergence of 3G and my passion for digital has continued to evolve ever since, as my eyes were opened to what can be possible with technology. However at the core I’m dedicated to working with people most in need of help, to making them feel connected and supported in whatever way is most meaningful to them, and I am well aware of the reality checks that cause barriers to accessing digital media.
The communities I am part of are… my goodness, so many, but due to the mixed nationalities in my family and my experience of living and working in several countries, my communities are made up of people from all walks of life that I’ve connected with in one way or another rather than specific geographical communities. ‘Global community’ is what resonates most personally with me.
My chosen form of communication is… face to face ideally, nothing can replace that for me but close second is and has to be anything via mobile because it comes with me wherever I am.
When I communicate digitally, I prefer… other than talking via mobile, instant messaging or Skype for practical communication, I love digital photography as a powerful, swift and user-friendly medium. You don’t have to be an expert these days, and I am not. Facebook is my favourite for feeling connected with other people’s lives across timezones and countries – and photos, but it does stop me picking up the phone sometimes which is frustrating.
