Volunteer Productions Technical Assistant


Reporting to:     Head of Production

Term:     3 months

Hours:     4/5 days per week

  • Volunteer role ideally for 4-5 days a week for a minimum of 3 months
  • Public transport travel expenses reimbursed, subject to a weekly maximum
  • Daily subsistence reimbursed, subject to a daily maximum

We have an award winning production unit which makes films for the charity, not for profit sectors and broadcast. It is a dynamic and creative team which creates high quality content for large and small organisations including Macmillan Cancer Support, The Princes Trust, universities and the public sector.

Job description

We are looking for a recent graduate or someone looking to build experience to support the Head of Production in meeting the Post Production requirements of Media Trust. You will gain an invaluable insight into Post Production as we deliver content to our clients and the Community Channel.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepping shooting kit (including camera, lighting and sound equipment) and basic kit maintenance
  • Data/render Wrangling, ensuring all tapeless media is stored appropriately before returning to the kit room 
  • Setting up edit projects on both AVID Media Composer, Final Cut Pro 7 and Premier Pro
  • Importing of rushes in preparation for edits (including time management of this)
  • Transcribing/Logging of rushes.
  • Exporting files into various formats from edit suites and uploading to VIMEO and FTP platforms
  • Creating client deliverables on time and to the correct specification
  • Ensuring that all media is consolidated at the end of each project and drives cleaned.
  • Uploading completed projects to server and restoring old projects from LTO Cache-A
  • DVD authoring/encoding and menu design
  • Some volunteer work on shoots where appropriate
  • Other duties as required

Productions is a tightly resourced team and you may be asked to carry out duties not specified in you role brief or occasionally work flexible hours if needed.

Person specification

  • Knowledge of video editing software and DVD authoring essential
  • Knowledge of camera, lighting and sound equipment essential
  • Knowledge of LTO Cache-A workflows desirable but training will be given.
  • Knowledge of graphics packages (e.g. After Effects, Motion and Photoshop) and creative flair desirable
  • Able to work with others as part of a team
  • Able to manage time and priorities well
  • Dependable with great attention to detail
  • Excellent organisation, prioritization and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proactive and helpful approach
  • Good computer literacy
