Senior PR Volunteer


Reporting to:     Head of Marketing & Communications

Term:     A term of three months or more

Hours:     At least one day per week

Location:    Our bright and friendly office located in West London (close to BBC Television Centre and Westfield Shopping Centre). Nearest tubes – White City and Wood Lane.

Expenses:    Public transport travel and daily subsistence reimbursed, subject to a daily maximum.

Role overview

Media Trust believes in the power of media to change lives, we empower charities and communities to have a voice and be heard.

The marketing and communications team at Media Trust is small but we punch well above our weight, with a Head of Marketing & Communications and Digital Marketing Manager plus ad-hoc pro-bono agency support. We are hoping to find an experienced PR professional to volunteer to help further increase our profile so we can reach more charities and encourage more media industry staff to become involved.

This role offers exposure to some of the most exciting media organisations around and the opportunity to become involved with a diverse range of high profile media related projects - for example Breaking Into News and events such as our Summit and Really Big Quiz.

Responsibilities include:

  • Helping to further develop our press office function, including acting as the first point of media contact for selected projects/activities.
  • Working closely with internal teams and media partners on joint PR projects, launches and announcements.
  • Researching and building relationships with key print, broadcast and online media
  • Leading PR activity for selected projects and events, developing tactical brief based plans.
  • Drafting and selling-in releases and other press materials (including potentially features, comment and opinion articles).
  • Undertaking regular media monitoring and reporting
  • Acting as an integral part of the Marketing & Communications team, brainstorming and developing creative campaign ideas

Person specification:

  • Experience of working in an in-house team, willing to be very hands on.
  • Solid PR background – please note this isn’t a trainee or internship opportunity
  • Well versed in using media databases (we use Gorkana) and cuttings services (we use Precise)
  • Agency management experience
  • Knowledge of the third sector or media industries would be a distinct advantage
